Muses -- I stand on the shoulders of these Sock
Geniuses. Whether they are "evil" is debatable.
The "Evil Genius Socks" began as a mash-up of Gibson and
Creel's patterns. They further developed as I sought a way to simplify
(yes, simplify)
the socks found in Bordhi's book.
Bordhi
inspired the longer gusset section, and the method for subtracting
gusset and heel rounds to determine the toe-section length. I used
Voth's fit calculations to derive numbers for my charts, which began as
Gibson's.
Beattie inspired the easy, round toe. All of these patterns are worth
seeking out and trying on their own.

Bordhi is the Queen of
Sock
Geniuses, a brilliant innovator of sock construction techniques. Fall
on your knees before the wonder of her greatness.

Gibson, Judy. "'You're Putting Me On' Socks"
http://tiajudy.com/putmeon.htm
This was the first toe-up
sock
pattern I ever encountered, and it's a good one. Its one flaw is that
you pick up stitches under the heel, and you can feel that ridge when
wearing them.
Voth, Charles. "Design Your Own Toe Up Socks"

This ingenious tutorial
uses some
very clever math to create custom numbers for socks. I think Voth's
proportions create socks that fit better than any other pattern I've
encountered.
I maintain an annotated list of toe-up sock construction patterns on my
website. See http://sites.google.com/a/yarmando.com/toe-up-sock-patterns.
